About Emily

I'm an avid reader who loves getting lost in a good book, generally fiction. When I'm not reading, you can usually find me in the kitchen, experimenting with new recipes and cooking up something delicious. Sourdough is my current fixation. I'm also a proud pet parent to two mischievous cats and a loving goldendoodle, so my home is always full of energy and love.

Professionally, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) practicing in California and New Mexico via video telehealth. I have a M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University and a Certificate in Substance Abuse Counseling from the University of the Pacific.

My journey to mental health counseling began in 2011 as a volunteer group counseling facilitator and later a supervisor, for those who have experienced intimate partner violence, physical and/or sexual abuse. I went on to obtain my Substance Abuse Counselor Certificate from University of the Pacific so I could continue to help those in need. This was motivated by witnessing people in my life battle with addiction. I loved helping teens overcome their addiction but I realized quickly that there was root factors that I was unable to address with that level of training. Thus, I applied to graduate school to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. An a LMFT I help individuals adults address emotional, mental health, and relational challenges, often focusing on the impact of family dynamics and relationships on overall well-being.

Throughout my education journey I gained 8 years of experience working in the community mental health setting as an employment specialist, case manager/counselor and therapist/team lead before making the move to private practice. In community mental health I worked with individuals who were low income, experiencing homelessness, and issues with the law (probation, court mandates, post prison/jail release). I worked closely with the Los Angeles court system in facilitating these services.

I opened up my private practice in 2021 upon returning to New Mexico where I am from. I’m thrilled to continue to work with individuals in CA, where I spent much of my adult life, as well as New Mexico. They are both places I love dearly! Video telehealth makes it easy for us all to access care without location restraints! Though I no longer work in community mental health settings, It’s important to me to continue to give back to my community so I do provide limited sliding scale options for those who experience financial hardship. I also continue to work with individuals attached to the legal system and can provide documentation for mandated therapy.

Community Work Matters

It has always been important to me to be involved in my community. As a therapist, our code of conduct includes finding ways to make a meaningful impact and give back. As such, I have a long volunteer history that includes fundraising, running support groups and managing nonprofit social media accounts.

In 2022 I joined the board for Susan’s Legacy, a nonprofit organization in Albuquerque that provides free services to women in the community dealing with co-occurring issues and often housing insecurity.

In 2023 I joined the board for the New Mexico Counseling Association, the local branch of the American Counseling Association that works to empower competent counselors. On this board I have been part of the annual conference planning and expanding our online presence.
